SAMARINDA – Mayor Andi Harun of Samarinda personally oversaw the progress of land and building clearance for the Karang Mumus River (SKM) normalization project at the Rahayu Gelatik segment on Monday.
Despite facing delays due to lengthy assessments by the KJPP, Mayor Andi Harun ensured the community that the normalization process would proceed swiftly to completion.
Accompanied by the East Kalimantan Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (Dinas PUPR), Mayor Andi Harun initiated the first phase of land clearance, marking 151 structures for voluntary dismantling by residents, with an additional 53 buildings slated for removal in the second phase.
“The initial land clearance process at the Rahayu Gelatik segment encountered delays during the lengthy KJPP assessments. Nevertheless, we are committed to ensuring that the normalization project progresses steadily,” Mayor Andi Harun stated.
Mayor Andi Harun expressed gratitude to the provincial government for their continuous support, particularly in terms of funding and technical expertise.
The Samarinda City Administration has allocated IDR 56.8 billion for the clearance of 204 structures and the overall normalization of the Rahayu Gelatik section.
Meanwhile, Runandar, Head of Water Resources at the East Kalimantan Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, confirmed that three heavy machinery units have been mobilized for the river normalization efforts in the Rahayu Gelatik segment.
“We have prepared three heavy machinery units for the normalization process,” Runandar affirmed.
He emphasized that the river normalization initiative aims to address flooding issues in Samarinda, particularly in the Rahayu Gelatik area.
“We hope that this river normalization effort will effectively resolve flooding problems in Samarinda, especially in the Rahayu Gelatik region,” he concluded. (*)
